SAEDNEWS: Experts warn that sleeping with wet hair can endanger hair and scalp health, leading to issues such as increased frizz, physical damage to hair, and even fungal growth, which may worsen problems like dandruff.
According to the Family Magazine section of SaedNews, the science behind this is simple: hair is made of proteins, and almost anything we do to it—including sleeping with wet hair—naturally wears down some of these protective proteins.
However, the fact that wet hair is more fragile doesn’t mean you should skip washing or conditioning. It simply means you need to handle your hair more gently until it dries. Some hair types are more prone to breakage than others, such as fine hair, frizzy hair with uneven texture, and bleached or dyed hair.
Occasionally sleeping with wet hair may not cause major problems, but it’s best to avoid it whenever possible. People with fragile or severely damaged hair are especially advised not to sleep with wet or damp hair. Doing so not only increases hair breakage but also raises the risk of fungal infections on the scalp.
Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, and lying on a pillow with wet hair creates a nearly laboratory-like environment for them. If you already have scalp issues such as dandruff, sleeping with wet hair can worsen the condition.
