SAEDNEWS: During the COVID quarantine period, an engineer of Indian origin built his own private airplane at home and later traveled across Europe with his family using it.
According to Saed News, citing the Young Journalists Club, at a time when airline ticket prices have risen sharply, a man from Kerala built his own private aircraft so he could travel on vacation with his family. Although the story may sound unbelievable, the idea came to “Ali Sril Tamarakshan” during the COVID-19 quarantine period.
Ali, originally from India and currently living in the United Kingdom, spent 18 months on this ambitious project and invested nearly 1.8 million rupees. After graduating with a BTech degree in engineering from Palakkad in 2006, he moved to the UK to pursue his master’s degree. He is currently working at the Ford Motor Company.
A licensed pilot, Ali has already used the aircraft he personally built to travel with his family to Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic.

Now 38 years old, Ali learned about Sling Aircraft, a company based in Johannesburg, and visited its factory after hearing about the launch of a new model called the Sling TSI. He ordered a kit to build his own aircraft. After obtaining his pilot’s license in 2018, he initially rented small two-seater planes for travel. However, as his family grew with the birth of his two daughters, he needed a four-seat aircraft.
Because four-seat planes are limited in availability and often quite old, Ali decided to build his own private four-seater aircraft. He named the plane “G-Diya,” inspired by his younger daughter.
