Iran Emphasizes Expanding Tehran-Baku Cooperation in Scope and Frequency

Tehran and Baku share technical commonalities that could foster convergence in space-based services and spectrum management, said Hashemi during a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Rashad Nabiyev, on the sidelines of the 2025 World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) in Baku.

Hashemi noted that bilateral relations have strengthened, particularly following President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Baku. He described the two countries as having long-standing friendship and inseparable bonds, with digital and infrastructure cooperation playing a key role in their strategic interests.

Highlighting challenges, Hashemi pointed to frequency arrangements and signal management in border areas as major areas requiring attention. He also emphasized the potential for collaboration in digital governance, telecommunication networks, and joint IT projects.

“Iran is ready to expand cooperation in satellites, infrastructure, data transfer, and cybersecurity,” he stated. Tehran is particularly supportive of creating sustainable and strategic data transfer routes along both North-South and East-West corridors.

For his part, Azerbaijan’s ICT minister welcomed the drafting of a joint memorandum of understanding in the field of Information and Communications Technology. Nabiyev expressed his country’s readiness to collaborate with Iran on sensing satellites, cybersecurity, and joint space initiatives.

He further stressed the importance of establishing joint data corridors and proposed forming a specialized ICT committee, alongside B2B meetings, to identify new capacities and partnerships between Iranian and Azerbaijani companies.
