SAEDNEWS: Nāser al-Dīn Shāh Qājār (July 17, 1831 – May 1, 1896) was the fourth king of Iran from the Qajar dynasty. He was the son of Mohammad Shah, the third Qajar king. Ruling from 1848 to 1896, he held the longest reign of any Qajar monarch, lasting nearly 50 years.

The Personal Physician’s Account of Naser al-Din Shah’s First Wife, Jeyran: “Jeyran Was Neither Beautiful Nor Charming, Yet She Won the Shah’s Heart Through Magic

According to the History and Culture Service of Saed News, citing Hamshahri, Jeyran’s real name was Khadijeh Tajrishi, but it is well known that Naser al-Din Shah called her “Jeyran” because of her beautiful eyes. The young village girl was so striking in the Shah’s eyes that he gave her this nickname, earning the envy and resentment of the other women in the court. But was Jeyran really as beautiful in the eyes of those around the Qajar Shah as she is portrayed in the popular TV series today?

Polak, Naser al-Din Shah’s personal physician, writes in his memoirs about Jeyran’s appearance: “She had neither exceptional beauty nor charm, and she had a prominent mole on her left cheek. Despite all this, she gained considerable influence over the Shah, and people believed this influence was the result of magic or enchantment.”

In any case, Jeyran was beautiful enough to Naser al-Din Shah that, out of his affection for her, he divorced one of his four official wives to add Jeyran to the group of his permanent wives.
