Iranian Leader’s Aide: Iraq Holds a Special Place for Iran

According to Saednews, Ali Akbar Velayati, international affairs adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader, met with Bafel Talabani, leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.

Velayati welcomed Talabani's visit and emphasized the importance of cooperation between Iran and Iraq as neighboring countries. He said both sides should avoid actions that could create opportunities for countries seeking to exploit regional tensions.

Talabani expressed solidarity with the Iranian people and said his visit was intended to reaffirm the PUK's support for Iran. He also highlighted Velayati's longstanding role in relations between Iran and Iraq, describing his ties with the late Jalal Talabani as an important foundation for relations involving Iran, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Talabani said that political developments involving individuals or groups should not undermine the longstanding relationship between the two neighboring countries.

"The relationship between Iraq and Iran will remain permanent," Talabani said, describing the two countries' geographical proximity as an important foundation for continued bilateral ties.
