SAEDNEWS: Iran Says US-Israeli Aggression Caused Economic Crisis in Strait of Hormuz
According to Saednews, Iran should not be held responsible for the global economic consequences resulting from restrictions it has imposed on transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a senior Iranian diplomat has said.
The diplomat made the remarks on Monday during the High-Level Segment meeting of the 68th session of the UN Trade and Development Board (UNCTAD) in Switzerland.
He said the current situation was a direct consequence of what he described as US-Israeli aggression and a naval blockade.
Addressing the meeting, the Iranian diplomat said the implications of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz for global development could not be considered separately from its underlying causes.
He argued that the use of coercive measures by countries such as the United States against Iran had exposed other developing nations to the risk of spillover effects through trade, energy, food and other economic channels.
According to the Iranian diplomat, the consequences of such measures are not confined to a single country. He warned that they could weaken development prospects and make affected economies more vulnerable to additional economic shocks.
He called for greater international efforts to strengthen the resilience of developing countries against external shocks.
The diplomat also urged UNCTAD to give greater attention to the cumulative impact of coercive measures, including what he described as aggression and blockade against Iran, on global development and economic resilience.
