SAEDNEWS: Iran’s UN envoy has condemned the U.S. military strike on Larak Island in a letter to the Security Council, describing the attack as a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and the UN Charter.
According to Saednews, Iran has condemned a U.S. military attack on Larak Island in the Persian Gulf, accusing Washington of violating its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran’s ambassador and chargé d’affaires to the United Nations, raised the issue in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the president of the Security Council. He said the Sunday evening attack killed and wounded a number of Iranian defenders and civilians and caused damage to public and private property.
Darzi described the strike as a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of states.
He said Iran’s armed forces had exercised their inherent right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter by carrying out what he called “defensive and proportionate” strikes against U.S. military bases in Jordan that had been used in military operations against Iran.
The Iranian envoy also accused the United States and Israel of being the main sources of insecurity affecting freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Darzi, the situation began with what Iran described as a large-scale U.S.-Israeli military attack on February 28, 2026. He said the actions had continued through a naval blockade, unilateral coercive measures described by Iran as an “economic terrorism operation,” and other provocative and interventionist measures.
Darzi accused the United States and Israel of committing serious violations of international humanitarian law, as well as acts that Iran considers state terrorism, war crimes and crimes against humanity. He said those responsible could face international and, where applicable, individual criminal responsibility.
He further warned that the United States and any parties that assisted, facilitated or participated in the alleged attacks would bear responsibility for their consequences, including damage suffered by the Iranian people.
Iran called on the UN secretary-general and Security Council to take measures under the UN Charter to address what it described as violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, establish accountability for the use of force and prevent further escalation.
Tehran also urged the United States to immediately end what Iran considers aggressive actions threatening freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
Darzi said Iran had consistently exercised restraint and acted within its rights and obligations under international law. At the same time, he warned that Iran would take all necessary measures to protect its people, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Iran’s armed forces will not hesitate to exercise the inherent right of self-defence and will respond decisively and proportionately to any military aggression,” he said.
