SAEDNEWS: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the United States must return to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed but later violated, describing this as the only clear way to resolve the current situation.
According to Saednews, Speaking after the first day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his meetings and discussions were focused entirely on practical working sessions rather than traditional formalities. The talks mainly addressed opportunities for economic cooperation and other areas of mutual collaboration.
Araghchi said the consequences of what he described as aggressive U.S. attacks were also discussed during the meetings. He stressed that Iran would continue to defend its rights, saying this position had been reaffirmed in all of his discussions.
He also said the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed by the presidents of the two countries and later violated by the United States, was raised in every meeting. According to Araghchi, Washington must return to its commitments and comply with the terms of the memorandum before progress can be made toward resolving the current situation.
He noted that all countries are concerned about bringing the war to an end as quickly as possible. Araghchi emphasized that the path forward was clear: the United States should honor its commitments and return to the agreement signed by its president. He said doing so would allow the situation to move back onto the right track.
