Trump Eases Tariff Policy as Food Prices Put Pressure on His Administration

According to SaedNews: Less than a year and a half after Donald Trump promised that new tariffs on goods from numerous countries, including U.S. allies, would create jobs and strengthen the American economy, his administration is now turning to increased imports and lower tariff barriers to contain rising food prices.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had finalized an agreement intended to significantly reduce the price of ground beef for working American families.

U.S. beef prices

More than a year and seven months after Joe Biden left office, Trump blamed his predecessor for current U.S. beef prices, arguing that beef prices recorded their highest rate of increase during Biden’s presidency and that the nation’s cattle herd fell to its lowest level in modern history.

Trump said that under the agreement, the United States would permit more than 300,000 tons of beef used to produce ground meat to be imported over the next 90 days without tariffs outside the existing import quota. He added that the deal includes a commitment to supply the imported beef at a price 25 percent below the current market level.

According to Trump, the agreement will both make beef more affordable for American consumers and provide an opportunity to rebuild the U.S. cattle population while supporting American ranchers.
