President Pezeshkian: Unity, Hope and Patience Strengthen Iran Against Foreign Threats

According to Saednews, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has paid tribute to former Iranian prisoners of war on the 36th anniversary of their return from captivity under Saddam Hussein’s Baathist regime.

In a post on his X account on Monday, Pezeshkian praised the resilience of Iranian captives who endured years of hardship while refusing to surrender the dignity and honor of their country.

He said the experiences of the prisoners were more than a chapter in wartime history, describing them as a lasting example of courage, perseverance and national pride.

Pezeshkian emphasized that patience, unity and hope remain essential to Iran’s ability to withstand growing external pressure and threats.

The anniversary marks August 17, 1990, when the first group of Iranian prisoners began returning home after years of captivity during the eight-year Iran-Iraq War.

The conflict was launched by Saddam Hussein’s Baghdad regime, which received extensive political and military support from Western powers. The returning prisoners were widely honored in Iran for their endurance and resistance throughout their years in enemy detention.
