SAEDNEWS: Fifteen U.S. senators have introduced legislation aimed at challenging what they describe as the Trump administration’s secrecy over casualties and the duration of the war against Iran.
According to SaedNews: Fifteen U.S. senators have introduced legislation seeking to counter what they describe as the Donald Trump administration’s concealment of the actual casualty figures and duration of the war against Iran.
The senators said the administration is attempting to minimize the real cost of the unpopular conflict and avoid accountability by reclassifying casualties from the recent war against Iran outside the designation “Operation Epic Fury.”
Tammy Duckworth, one of the bill’s authors, described the Trump administration’s management of the war as insulting. She argued that because the conflict is unpopular, Trump is distorting the figures in an effort to mislead public opinion.
The proposal would prohibit the unilateral renaming of an ongoing conflict, political manipulation of casualty records and changes to the conditions required for personnel benefits. It would also require the Pentagon to restore all casualty records dated from February 28, 2026, to their original form.
The Senate lawmakers’ initiative to disclose the actual casualty figures reflects what they describe as the unpopularity of the war against Iran and the Trump administration’s effort to avoid accountability for a conflict they say began without a clear strategy or stated rationale.
