SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Foreign Minister said countries such as Russia are seeking the swift implementation of the convention. He highlighted that one of the key provisions of the agreement is that no foreign military forces will be present in the Caspian Sea.
According to Saed News’ Political Service, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi explained the government’s submission of an expedited bill concerning the legal status of the Caspian Sea Convention to the Iranian Parliament.
Araghchi said the Caspian Sea Convention had been referred to Parliament by the previous government in 2018 and 2019 for consideration and approval. He noted that the other four Caspian littoral states have already accepted the convention, while its adoption by the Islamic Republic of Iran requires approval by the Iranian Parliament.
He emphasized that protecting the country’s national interests is a shared concern, but warned that some individuals and groups outside Iran are seeking to exploit the issue for purposes that serve the interests of others.
Araghchi added that countries such as Russia are seeking the swift implementation of the convention. He also highlighted one of its key provisions: no foreign military forces would be permitted to operate in the Caspian Sea.
