SAEDNEWS: JD Vance told CNN a 1.5-page Iran–U.S. memorandum ties lifting major sanctions on Iran to its commitment to regional peace, with formal signing expected Friday in Switzerland.
According to the political news service of Saed News Agency, following Donald Trump’s official announcement of the completion of an agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, U.S. Vice President “J.D. Vance,” in a live interview with CNN, explained the structural and substantive details of the document.
The U.S. Vice President confirmed that the document in question is a very concise memorandum of understanding, saying:
“Yes, the memorandum of understanding is about one and a half pages, so we are dealing with a very general document. We still need to clarify details of a number of issues in the technical negotiation phase; however, this document establishes a framework under which the Iranian side will benefit from its commitments by fulfilling them.”
In this regard, Donald Trump also stated during a meeting with Emmanuel Macron that he is very eager to make the text public, and this will likely happen soon, some time after the official signing ceremony on Friday.
In another part of the interview, J.D. Vance explained the first clause of the document and claimed that the foundation of this understanding is regional security. According to him:
The first paragraph of the document defines the expectation for Iran to adhere to “regional peace and stability.”
Under this clause, Iran is expected to commit to regional stability to the same extent as the United States commits itself.
Vance claimed that part of this commitment includes stopping the funding of violent groups and organizations that the U.S. considers terrorist.
The U.S. Vice President, accusing some officials within Iran’s political structure of exaggerating the achievements of this agreement to influence public opinion, explicitly stated that no tangible concessions have yet been made.
Emphasizing Tehran’s need for practical compliance, he noted: “So far, not even a single dollar of Iran’s frozen assets has been released, and no sanctions relief has taken place by the United States or our partners in the Gulf.” However, he confirmed that if commitments are fully implemented, a major sanctions relief package would be available to the Iranian people, which could transform Iran’s engagement with the world.
Previously, CNN had revealed that senior officials from both countries, including Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, had signed the agreement digitally.
The next step of this major memorandum is expected to take place in Europe, as Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the official in-person signing ceremony of the agreement will be held on 29 Khordad in Switzerland.
These developments come as Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretariat also confirmed in an official statement that, under these agreements, military operations on all fronts (including Lebanon) have been immediately terminated, and the maritime blockade of Iran has been fully lifted.
