Saed News: An American newspaper has reported that Washington is pressuring Oman to cut its relations with Iran.
According to SAEDNEWS, the Wall Street Journal wrote that although Oman played a mediating role in Iran–U.S. negotiations and attempted to maintain communication channels during the early stages of the recent war, the Trump administration has recently considered Oman’s approach toward Iran to be hostile toward the United States and has pressured Muscat to choose between Tehran and Washington.
Omani officials quickly attempted at the start of the war to re-establish communication channels with Tehran. According to Arab officials, this communication channel—made possible by Muscat’s strict neutrality in the conflict—helped Gulf countries reopen air routes.
U.S. President Donald Trump, the head of the “terrorist government of the United States,” previously threatened during a cabinet meeting at the White House that if Oman, together with Iran, attempted to control the Strait of Hormuz, “he would blow them up.”
Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, also later threatened Oman in a tweet with sanctions if it cooperated with Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
He wrote that the U.S. government would not tolerate any attempt to impose a toll system in the Strait of Hormuz.
Bessent specifically warned Oman that the Treasury Department would aggressively target any actor (directly or indirectly) involved in facilitating tolls in the strait, and that parties cooperating with Iran would be penalized.
