Urgent: Trump Announces Possible Timing of an Agreement With Iran

According to SAEDNEWS, on Monday evening local time, Trump, in an interview with the American television network and in contradiction to some of his previous statements, claimed that he believes an agreement with Iran to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz will be reached “within the next week.”

In a telephone interview with the American television network, he claimed: “Things look good, very good.”

Trump added: “There was a small problem today, but I fixed it very quickly, as you have probably already noticed.”

The U.S. President described reaching an agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran as “even better than a military victory” and added: “This is not a simple matter. You are talking about a really large country; a very large country that is going to reach an agreement. There are very deep hostilities.”

Trump claimed: “So this is not easy for them. From our point of view, it is not easy either. But we are getting what we need to get.”

When asked when the memorandum of understanding regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would be finalized and agreed upon, the U.S. President said: “I think that will happen within the next week.”

Trump claimed that he has not yet finally approved the memorandum because “we still have to agree on a few other things.” Tehran has reacted to the escalation of Israeli military attacks in southern Lebanon.

According to Shafaqna, Saudi Arabia’s Asharq News Network reported early Tuesday on its website that following reports claiming Tehran had suspended the exchange of messages with Washington regarding negotiations aimed at ending the war because of the Israeli military aggression against Lebanese territory, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he believes an agreement with Iran to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz could be reached within the next week.

Speaking to the American news network ABC News, Trump stated that “things look good,” and spoke of a “small disruption” that, according to him, “was resolved very quickly.” He explained that the issue was related to the anger of Iranian officials over Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory.

The U.S. President stated that he had managed to persuade both sides in the Lebanon conflict to stop fighting, saying: “I spoke with Hezbollah and told them no shooting. I also spoke with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, and told him no shooting. Then both sides stopped firing at each other.”

Trump further emphasized that “a peace agreement with Iran may be even better than a military victory,” while also acknowledging: “This is not simple. We are talking about a very large country entering into an agreement, and there is enormous hostility.”

The U.S. President also claimed: “This is not easy for them (Iran), and in fact it is not easy for us either, but we are getting what we need.”

Regarding the timing for finalizing and approving the memorandum concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said, “I believe we are talking about next week,” explaining that he has not yet approved it because “we still need to reach agreement on several other points.”

On Monday, June 1, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on the social media platform X: “The ceasefire between Iran and the United States, without any ambiguity, is a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon. A violation of this ceasefire on any front constitutes a violation on all fronts.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed: “The United States and Israel will be responsible for the consequences of any violation of this ceasefire.”

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and head of Iran’s negotiating delegation, also stated: “The imposition of a naval blockade and the escalation of war crimes in Lebanon by the genocidal Zionist regime are clear evidence of America’s failure to adhere to the ceasefire. Every choice has a cost, and the bill eventually arrives.”

On May 23, 2026 (2 Khordad 1405), the President of the United States claimed: “An agreement between the United States and Iran has been drafted and is now awaiting finalization. The final aspects and details of the agreement are under review and will be announced soon.”

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also announced that the two sides are in the final stage of preparing a memorandum of understanding whose main focus is ending the war. Ending what Washington describes as a naval blockade and releasing Iran’s frozen assets are among the most important issues under discussion in the memorandum.
