Four Days on the Operating Table: Where Was the World’s Longest Surgery Performed?

According to SAEDNEWS, the operation was carried out to remove a very large ovarian cyst. According to Guinness World Records, during the surgery the patient’s weight dropped from about 280 kilograms to 140 kilograms, highlighting the extraordinary size of the mass removed and the extreme complexity of the procedure.

This surgery is still listed in the Guinness World Records as the longest recorded surgical operation in the world.

In later years, other highly complex surgeries were also performed, including the separation of conjoined twins Ganga and Jamuna Shrestha at Singapore General Hospital, which lasted more than 100 hours. However, the official Guinness record still belongs to the 96-hour surgery performed on Gertrude Levandowski in 1951.
