Saad News: Doctors separated conjoined twins with the help of virtual reality.
According to SAEDNEWS, Brazilian three-year-old twins Bernardo and Arthur Lima, who had been joined at the head since birth, were separated during one of the most complex separation surgeries ever performed. Although the surgery took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, specialists from Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital guided the procedure using virtual reality technology.
The surgical team spent several months practicing surgical techniques using virtual reality and medical imaging of Bernardo and Arthur. This was the first time surgeons from different countries used headsets inside a shared virtual reality room to carry out such a procedure. Around 100 people participated in the surgery, and the twins underwent multiple operations, with the final surgery lasting 27 hours.
