According to Saed News, citing Simorgh, a remarkably well-preserved mammoth has recently been discovered in a lake in Siberia. For centuries, the remains of animals and historical objects have lain hidden beneath the frozen depths of lakes in countries such as Russia and the Scandinavian regions, inaccessible to scientists and researchers due to thick ice and snow.

The gradual rise in temperatures in some of Russia’s coldest regions, including Siberia, means that these ancient remains are now beginning to emerge from the ice and float to the surface. This phenomenon is allowing scientists to gain new access to species that can provide valuable insights into their ancient history. In 2018, for example, a puppy was discovered in a melting lake so well preserved that even parts of its fur remained intact.

On July 23 of this summer, another discovery was made when the permafrost beneath a lake revealed a new treasure. Workers near Lake Pekhevalavator, above the Arctic Circle, encountered unusual remains. They found parts of a young mammoth’s body. Laboratory tests on the soft tissue are expected to determine its exact age, but scientists currently estimate it to be around 10,000 to 12,000 years old.

Workers recovered part of the animal’s skull, muscles, ribs, and one of its legs. Researchers, including Dmitry Frolov, are currently studying the remains. He hopes that the rest of the missing skeleton will soon be found, stating: “The entire skeleton of the mammoth is there beneath the lake. Workers have now returned to the site to recover the rest of it.”

While scientists are excited about the discovery and believe it may provide highly valuable information, the ongoing warming of the planet has become a serious concern. This July was about 10 degrees warmer than last year, highlighting the negative impact of climate change.

Nevertheless, researchers in Russia and around the world continue to study such finds, even as rising temperatures lead to further environmental concerns.

This is not the first time Siberia has experienced dramatic environmental changes. In recent years, winter temperatures have reportedly dropped to as low as -90°F, extremely cold even for Siberia. However, climate reports indicate that in recent summers, temperatures have occasionally reached 90°F, a sharp contrast to previous decades.

This young mammoth is not the only ancient remains exposed in recent years due to melting ice. Two years ago, a 42,000-year-old foal and the head of a 32,000-year-old wolf were also discovered in the region.
