Is Hantavirus Similar To Coronavirus? / Minoo Mohraz Responds

According to SAEDNEWS, Minoo Mohraz, an infectious disease subspecialist, referring to concerns raised about hantavirus, stated: “Unlike COVID-19, this disease does not spread rapidly and is mainly transmitted to humans through contact with rodents and their droppings.”

She added that no case of hantavirus has so far been reported in Iran, saying: “In the cruise ship incident, despite the large number of people on board, only a limited number became infected, but the global media atmosphere became filled with fear, and the World Health Organization continuously released reports about the disease.”

Mohraz continued: “If the new hantavirus is transmitted from human to human in special cases, it can be deadly, but it is absolutely not similar to COVID-19. Its primary transmission route is through contact with mice and rodent droppings.”

Referring to the rodent situation in the capital, she added: “This is an opportunity to once again remind city officials that the issue of rats in Tehran is serious. Combating these rodents, carrying out pest control, and managing them are the responsibilities of the municipality, and more serious measures must be taken in this regard.”
