Saed News: One of the most beautiful natural attractions of Kermanshah province is the nature of "Gholin," which invites many tourists to visit.
According to the news and analysis website Saad News, quoting Fararo, Kermanshah is one of the oldest provinces in Iran, historically known by names such as Elipi, Kambadan, and Qarmasin, and later adopted the name Kermanshahan and Kermanshah. The word "Kermanshah" was first used around 279 AH by the scholar Ban Faqih Hamadani in his book "Mukhtasar al-Buldan."
Kermanshah Province is one of the western provinces of the country, with a population of nearly 2 million people. Its center is the metropolitan city of Kermanshah, the ninth most populous city in the country, and the hub of the western region. In terms of area, it is the seventeenth largest province in the country, bordered to the north by Kurdistan Province, to the south by Lorestan and Ilam Provinces, to the east by Hamadan Province, and to the west by Iraq. Due to its proximity to Iraq and being located along the routes to the pilgrimage cities of Karbala and Baghdad, as well as sharing about 330 kilometers of border with the central government of Iraq and the Kurdistan region, the province holds special significance.
With 4,200 historical sites, half of which are registered as national heritage, Kermanshah is the third richest province in the country in terms of the number of historical monuments, placing it among the most attractive regions of the country. The abundance of historical sites, pristine and beautiful nature, spring water sources, delicious food, rich handicrafts, ancient customs, diverse climate, and even the memorials of the Holy Defense are just a few of the attractions that make Kermanshah a tourist destination.
For those who love travel, no matter what route they take into this province, they will encounter unique attractions and the rich history of the country, which can create memorable experiences for visitors. Therefore, Mehr News Agency plans to present a glimpse of the province’s historical, natural, and national tourist attractions during the Nowruz holidays of 1403.
The city of Kermanshah is not only known for its Bisotun complex, ancient statues, mysterious churches, shopping centers, and numerous religious sites, but also for its springs and roaring springs, which are mesmerizing sights that one should not miss during a visit to Kermanshah during the Nowruz holidays.
While many people recognize Kermanshah for its historical attractions, this green and mountainous province also boasts numerous natural attractions. One of its important natural destinations is the tourist and recreational area of Sarab Niloufar, which invites many travelers to visit.
Gholin: A Piece of Lost Paradise in Western Iran
The attractions of Kermanshah city are not limited to the Bisotun complex, ancient statues, mysterious churches, shopping centers, and numerous religious sites; the villages of this province are also breathtaking and must be visited during the Nowruz holidays.
While Kermanshah is famous for its historical landmarks, this green and mountainous province also has abundant natural wonders, with one of its most beautiful attractions being the "Gholin" nature, which draws many tourists.
Gholin: An Unknown Region in the Heart of Green Valleys and a Roaring River
Gholin is a very beautiful and tourist-friendly village located in the Deira district of Gilan-e-Gharb County in Kermanshah Province, situated 33 kilometers from Gilan-e-Gharb and 215 kilometers from Kermanshah.
The Gholin recreational area is a pristine and refreshing spot in a valley filled with various trees, famous for its pomegranates and a constantly flowing river that offers kilometers of beauty and serenity to travelers and Nowruz guests. The mountainous features, plant cover, intertwined orchards, beautiful heights, and the mountainous paths are some of the unique and distinguishing features of the Gholin tourist region. The beauty of this area is so mesmerizing that it can captivate anyone’s eyes.
Gholin is an expansive region made up of several large and small villages, orchards, and fields, situated in a magnificent and long valley along both sides of a large and roaring river. It is considered one of the country's premier tourist destinations, with villages such as "Anjavrud" and "Allah Morad" being key spots in the area.
Gholin’s Legacy Dates Back to “Bijan and Manijeh” of Iranian Mythology
This region is shaped as a deep and long valley, approximately 20 kilometers in length and 400 meters deep, with a beautiful river hidden among the lush trees. It is also home to historical and ancient sites. According to historical accounts and publications, life in this area dates back to the era of the legendary "Bijan and Manijeh" of the Sirvan River in Sarpol-e-Zahab County. According to historical narratives, when Bijan ruled this region, the local people complained about the attacks of wild animals, and Gorgin was dispatched to cleanse the valley, ensuring the safety of the area, which has continued to be inhabited since then. Though this area remains largely unknown, its exceptional beauty astonishes every visitor.
In addition to its natural wonders, the Gholin region boasts numerous historical relics, such as the Farhad inscription (or Farhad Kan) 150 meters from the entrance bridge to the valley, an arch opposite the village of Najjar with several steps, a basin, and some pits for storing food, the Gorgin castle with its old walls, a basin, and an inscription near the Sarbagh of Gholin, and the Anjavrud castle (Azima) with multiple walls that have no entrances.
Several bubbling springs that form the Gholin river add to the region's allure. The river’s water has been used to build the Zagros Dam, which channels the water into the Tangeh Kork Gilan-e-Gharb irrigation system for farming in the area.
Gholin, with its abundant river, is a habitat for cold-water and freshwater fish, making fishing with a hook a delightful activity in the valley.
The houses in this region are built in a terraced style using stone, mud, and wood, so that the roof of one house serves as the courtyard of the next. The climate here is temperate and mountainous, with lush nature.
The People of Gholin are Warm, Friendly, and Hospitable
One of the tourists who visited Gholin with his family described the region as a unique and stunning natural attraction. He said: "Gholin is a cool region in a beautiful plain with vast rice paddies. Everywhere in this area is filled with scenic attractions, making a trip to Gholin a dreamy experience for any traveler."
Mona Jokar added that in spring, it’s best to wear warm clothing when visiting, and said: "It was really a beautiful and pristine village. We really enjoyed it. The local people are very cultured, friendly, and warm-hearted. I definitely recommend everyone to visit this beautiful area."
She also mentioned the beautiful memories of peace and joy she created with her family during the trip: "Besides the eye-catching beauty of nature and the pomegranate orchards along the way, there are also caves along the road dating back to the Sassanid era."
Unfortunately, this pristine and tourist-friendly capacity has yet to receive adequate access routes, proper coverage, enough road signs, and well-organized tourist facilities due to the negligence of cultural heritage and tourism officials in Kermanshah Province.
