Saed News: The head of the Dezful Cultural Heritage Department announced the discovery of a 150-meter tunnel that had been excavated by treasure hunters.

According to the multimedia service of Saed News, the head of the Dezful Cultural Heritage Department reported the discovery of a 150-meter tunnel that had been excavated by treasure hunters.

Hamidreza Khadem stated: Following investigations by the Dezful Cultural Heritage Protection Unit and with the help of local trusted individuals, an illegal excavation was discovered at the site of one of Dezful’s historic houses.

A member of the faculty at the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism warned about the destruction of Persian inscriptions and their replacement with Chinese tiles and Arabic scripts across Iran’s cultural landscape.

He added: During this time, the treasure hunters had managed to dig a tunnel 150 meters long and 35 meters deep, reaching even one of the bases of the ancient bridge.

The head of the Dezful Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department stated: Upon entering the tunnel, we encountered a number of structures and bricks dating back to the Sassanid era, which are currently being examined by experts.

Khadem emphasized that those responsible for the illegal excavation have been identified and stressed that the Cultural Heritage Department will pursue the matter seriously through legal and judicial channels.
