Where is Konarak Port? How can you travel there?

According to Saednews, Konarak is a port city in Konarak, located in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. This scenic port lies on the western edge of the Chabahar Gulf, along the coast of the Arabian Sea. It is bordered by Nikshahr to the north and the city of Chabahar to the east. To the west, it shares a border with Hormozgan Province.

This port city covers an area of about 11,567 square kilometers and is divided into two districts: Zarabad and Konarak.

Villages such as Kahir, East and West Zarabad, and Jehlian are part of this port city. Due to the abundance of trees—especially the “Kenar” tree—the city is called Konarak, meaning “the city of Kenar trees.” It has a special economic position, with trade relations with Arab countries along the Persian Gulf coast and Pakistan. Most of the local population is engaged in fishing.

Tourist Attractions in Konarak

Konarak has many natural and historical attractions, although it remains relatively unknown compared to other Iranian destinations. Its beaches are suitable for water activities, similar to northern coastal cities, but with a unique southern atmosphere.

Konarak Pier

One of the most important attractions is the Konarak Pier, one of the largest piers in Iran, stretching 4 to 5 kilometers. It was built for fishing boats and traditional vessels (dhows). Fishermen bring their catch from the Indian Ocean and unload it here. Visitors can watch the daily activities of fishermen and enjoy the warm coastal breeze.

Gordim Peninsula

The Gordim Peninsula is located about 50 km from Konarak. It has a pleasant climate, attracting tourists throughout the year. In winter, it is especially popular as a warm getaway destination.

Mud Volcanoes (Mud Hills)

One of the natural wonders near Konarak is the mud volcano area. Unlike volcanic eruptions, these formations emit cold, clay-like mud. Occasionally, bubbling sounds can be heard as the mud surfaces and flows, creating a unique landscape.

Derak Beach

Located about 133 km from Konarak, Derak Beach is where desert sands meet the sea, creating a breathtaking landscape. The area includes rocky shores, coral-like formations, and palm groves, making it a popular winter destination.

Aryan Khan Historical House

This mud-brick house dates back to the Qajar and Pahlavi eras. It was registered as a national heritage site in 2004. The house, with its columns and old-style windows, reflects historical Iranian architecture.

Pozm Tiyab Port

Located along the Gulf of Oman coast, Pozm Tiyab is famous for its pristine scenery. It is a popular destination for photographers and nature lovers. Fishing boats and traditional vessels are commonly seen along its shores.

Chaarbiti Banana Farm

In the village of Chaarbiti, there is a unique banana plantation where visitors can learn about banana cultivation and harvesting. The area also features mixed vegetation including olive and guava trees.

Latte Bazaar

Latte Bazaar is a local market surrounded by small and large shops selling traditional handicrafts such as embroidered clothing, woven mats, and souvenirs. It is also a place to buy outdoor gear and handmade local products.

Best Time to Visit Konarak

Konarak has a hot and humid climate, making autumn and winter the best seasons to visit. From late autumn to early spring, the city becomes a popular destination for tourists seeking warm coastal weather instead of cold winter climates.

During summer, monsoon winds make the weather relatively cooler compared to other parts of Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

Accommodation in Konarak

Visitors can stay in rural homes or eco-lodges. Two notable eco-accommodations include:

  • Baluchzadeh Gol Afshan Eco-Lodge: Offers traditional palm-frond huts (known locally as kapers), providing an authentic experience of Baluchi lifestyle and local seafood dishes.

  • Tiyab Makran Eco-Lodge: Features traditional-style rooms with local cuisine such as meat karahi, grilled dishes, and shrimp-based meals.
