SAEDNEWS: Arjan Plain, rivaling heaven in beauty and grandeur, lies only 60 kilometers from the city of Shiraz.
According to Saed News Family Magazine, Arjan Plain lies between the cities of Shiraz and Kazeroon. From Shiraz, reaching Arjan Plain requires a 60-kilometer drive toward Kazeroon, where you will see the sign marking the entrance.

The main attractions of Arjan Plain in Shiraz are its natural wonders. This area can be considered a small paradise for nature lovers. However, numerous historical sites also surround this beautiful plain. Even those interested in village tourism can experience authentic local life in the nearby villages.
Arjan Plain is full of refreshing energy, attracting travelers from Shiraz and Kazeroon. With just an hour’s drive, visitors reach this beloved garden-like plain. Here, they can relax among the lush greenery and gardens, enjoy meals in local restaurants and cafés, and fully immerse themselves in the serene environment. Arjan Plain, one of Iran’s beautiful and unique plains, is framed by the southern Zagros mountain range. Its waterfalls, lake, diverse wildlife, and vibrant flora create a heavenly landscape.
The Arjan Waterfall, locally called Cheroniz, cascades from the towering cliffs of the region, with the soothing sound of flowing water enveloping the surroundings. This natural symphony is one of the most relaxing experiences in Arjan. In winter, when temperatures drop below freezing, the waterfall transforms into a spectacular ice display, decorating the cliffs with crystalline formations. Before spring arrives, Cheroniz becomes Arjan’s icy queen.
Wherever water exists, life thrives. In Arjan Plain, beyond Cheroniz Waterfall, water is abundant. Arjan Lake and its wetlands highlight the area’s rich aquatic presence. This freshwater lake spans approximately 2,000 hectares and attracts migratory birds, adding to its unique beauty. The wetlands, with their tall reeds, enhance the lake’s charm and are replenished by the Dalaki River and seasonal rainfall.
Unfortunately, human intervention has harmed the wetlands, with parts of the reeds lost due to agricultural activity and occasional fires.
Arjan Lake is about 65 kilometers from the ancient city of Bishapur in central Kazeroon. This historic city, a testament to Iranian urban planning, dates back to the Sassanian era. The inscriptions and reliefs of Bishapur narrate the city’s ancient history to archaeologists.
In Bishapur Valley stands another Sassanian treasure, the Anahita Temple—a roofless cubic structure built in a style reminiscent of Achaemenid architecture, reflecting the grandeur of Iran’s historical heritage. Nearby, Shapur Cave features a statue of Shapur I at the entrance, an impressive example of ancient stone craftsmanship and artistic intelligence.
Arjan Plain was once known for the Asiatic lion, which reproduced within the protected area. Sadly, today no lions remain due to hunting and human-induced habitat changes. Nonetheless, Arjan still hosts a variety of animals, including cows, sheep, deer, and gazelles, particularly within the protected zone.
Located along the main Shiraz–Kazeroon route, Arjan Plain sees heavy traffic, with travelers from Bushehr also passing through on their way to Shiraz. In recent years, locals have established a small market along this route, offering handmade goods and local delicacies.
Much of the market features dairy products, pickles, plums, and other homemade treats. Roadside tea houses, shops selling traditional crafts, herbal remedies, and general stores complement the market. Specialty yogurts, herbal-infused beverages, and diverse pickles are especially popular.
Situated in the southwestern part of the plain, Arjan Lake offers a tranquil spot for visitors to enjoy nature. The local dairy and artisanal products reflect the heritage of nomadic communities of Fars Province, with most items prepared from fresh milk and handcrafted goods available for purchase.
Prices at the market are fair considering the unique flavors and qualities of the products, making this market one of the best places to buy local souvenirs in Fars Province.
