SAEDNEWS: Egyptian Young Man’s Online Relationship with a Woman 45 Years Older Leads to Controversial Marriage
According to a report by Saed News, citing Young Journalists Club, an Egyptian man has faced criticism from people around him and on social media after marrying an elderly woman who is significantly older than him.
The Daily Mail reported that a 35-year-old Egyptian man married an 80-year-old British woman, who is 45 years older than him. The criticism surrounding their relationship angered him.
The report stated that Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, a 35-year-old Egyptian, met Iris Jones, an 80-year-old British woman, on Facebook last year. Iris later traveled to Egypt to marry him, although the couple has not yet been able to officially register their marriage.
Appearing on a television program in Cairo, Mohamed defended his relationship and passionately spoke about his love for Iris, a woman old enough to be his grandmother. He told those who doubted their love to “go to hell.”
When asked by the presenter why he insisted on a marriage with such a large age difference, Mohamed avoided directly answering and said:
“I am Mohamed, and I met Iris on the internet. When she decided to travel to my country to visit the Egyptian pyramids, I met her, and we discovered that we understood each other.”
He added angrily:
“Love does not recognize age differences or geographical distances. This is our life. She chose me, and I chose her. To everyone who insults our love, I say this is our personal matter, and you should focus on your own lives.”
