SAEDNEWS: It may be hard to believe, but geese also “hire” babysitters. Among humans, hiring a babysitter is a common practice, but discovering that geese engage in a similar behavior can be quite fascinating.
According to Saed News, an unusual and heartwarming story about a goose caring for dozens of goslings—effectively acting as a “babysitter”—was discovered by a local photographer in Saskatchewan, Canada.
The photographer, named Dygout, came across the scene during one of his nightly walks along the Saskatchewan River. He noticed a mother goose guiding a large group of goslings.
“I was walking along the river as I do every night, and I often see many geese because they come from the south looking for nesting places,” he said. “That’s why I try to photograph them. That day, I saw a large group of geese following one mother goose. I counted them and there were 16 goslings. I was surprised by the number, so I started taking photos. But day by day, the number kept increasing.”
At first, he observed 25 goslings, then 30 the next day, and later even 47. Eventually, he realized that this single mother goose was not only caring for her own chicks, but also for goslings from several different families—effectively acting as a kind of communal babysitter.
Reflecting on the experience, Dygout said: “Seeing this goose, I felt she was born to be a babysitter. She was amazing and guided the goslings with great patience.”
