The Strange Story of a Girl Who Changed Her Appearance After Breaking Up with Her Fiancé

According to Saed News, citing Nishan News, a story about a 19-year-old Vietnamese woman who broke up with her boyfriend over her appearance and then underwent extensive cosmetic surgery has become a hot topic on social media in Vietnam.

Nguyen Thong Vy, 21, from Dak Lak Province, shared photos from a few years ago, before her cosmetic procedures, sparking nationwide attention overnight. She revealed that at 17, while in the 11th grade, she decided to completely change her appearance following a breakup.

Apparently, she and her boyfriend were very much in love. Although he repeatedly told her that he loved her for herself and not her looks, according to Nik Salehi, he never introduced her to his friends. It was only when one of his friends invited them to his birthday party that she realized her appearance had been the real reason.

Thong Vy recalls that at the party, people constantly pointed at her and whispered, questioning how such a handsome boy could choose a “plain-looking” girl. The situation worsened as her boyfriend kept his distance and never introduced her to his friends.

After the swift end of her relationship, she experienced another shock when she saw her ex with a much more attractive girl. This intensified her dislike of her own perceived flaws and strengthened her determination to undergo a transformation.

She shared her wish with her mother, who surprisingly supported her decision, agreed to cover all the costs, and even accompanied her to the clinic.

At 19, after graduating from high school, she began her facial plastic surgery journey, undergoing multiple procedures including rhinoplasty, cheek implants, lip and chin augmentations, and more. She quickly noticed public admiration and gained newfound confidence. Reflecting on her ex, she said:

“I haven’t seen my ex for four years, although he still follows me on social media and likes my photos every day. I used to resent him, but now, if I were in a similar situation, I wouldn’t hesitate to introduce someone who doesn’t meet conventional standards of beauty to my friends. Maybe I should even thank him for motivating me to improve and upgrade myself.”
