SAEDNEWS: Amanollahi, a pediatric surgery subspecialist, stated that an exceptionally rare surgery was successfully carried out in Kermanshah.
According to Saed News, citing Salam No, Dr. Amanollahi, a pediatric surgery specialist, explained that the phenomenon of “fetus in fetu” is a rare condition. Based on one theory, it occurs when a type of twin pregnancy results in one twin being absorbed by the other during the embryonic stage, ending up inside the body of its sibling.
He noted that after birth, the deceased twin creates a mass in the newborn’s abdomen, causing pressure and potential complications. Surgical intervention is required to remove the dead twin from the body of the living infant.
Dr. Amanollahi added that this highly delicate surgery was successfully carried out yesterday, March 28, in the operating room of Dr. Mohammad Kermanshahi Hospital.
