SAEDNEWS: China has recently unveiled a new technology that resembles real-world invisibility. Researchers have developed a special material that can automatically change its appearance and blend seamlessly with its surroundings.
According to the Science and Technology Desk of Saed News, this material changes color in response to light almost instantly, allowing it to blend with its surroundings in just a few seconds and appear invisible. The mechanism, known as self-adaptive photochromism, differs from chameleons, which rely on specialized skin cells. Instead, this material uses organic pigments and donor–acceptor molecules, which alter their structure and color when exposed to light.
In laboratory tests, the material was able to fully match a variety of background colors in under a minute—typically between 30 and 80 seconds. Even more intriguing, the technology can be applied as a spray to clothing, equipment, surfaces, and other objects, suggesting it may soon find everyday applications.
The big question now is whether this breakthrough will make the world safer—or introduce new risks and challenges.
