Araghchi Reaffirms Iran’s Commitment to Protecting National Security and National Interests

According to Saednews, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Kyrgyzstan, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in politics, trade, economics, transportation, energy, and coordination through international platforms such as the SCO and BRICS.

The two officials agreed to continue efforts to implement previous agreements and expand collaboration between their countries across key sectors.

Addressing developments in West Asia, Araghchi expressed appreciation for Russia's support and its condemnation of recent U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran. He stated that tensions in the Strait of Hormuz were a result of U.S. policies and emphasized that while Iran remained committed to diplomacy that contributed to the ceasefire, it was equally prepared to safeguard its national security and protect its interests.

Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's opposition to the U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran and stressed the importance of regional cooperation and trust-building to establish a sustainable security framework led by countries in the region. He also said Russia was ready to provide assistance in support of those efforts.
