Qatar, Pakistan Report Progress in Iran–US Talks

According to Saednews, The State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan issued a joint statement on Monday following the conclusion of the Lake Lucerne Summit and the first meeting of the High-Level Committee, which brought together representatives from the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the statement, the first round of high-level discussions held under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concluded successfully in Burgenstock, Switzerland. The talks involved delegates from Iran, the United States, and the two mediating nations, Qatar and Pakistan.

The summit was conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere, resulting in encouraging progress, including the establishment of a mechanism for future technical discussions.

Building upon the provisions of the MoU, the participating parties agreed to establish a High-Level Committee responsible for providing political oversight of the mediation process. Chief negotiators will regularly report to the committee and lead specialized working groups focused on nuclear issues, sanctions, monitoring, and dispute resolution, as well as other relevant matters to support the effective implementation of the agreement.

The committee also approved a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days. This roadmap paves the way for the immediate launch of additional technical negotiations. Furthermore, the parties established a direct communication channel for the period specified in the MoU to prevent misunderstandings and incidents, while ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, the participants agreed to create a de-confliction cell involving the parties and the Lebanese Republic, facilitated by the mediators. The purpose of this mechanism is to ensure compliance with the cessation of military operations in Lebanon as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding.

Technical discussions on all outstanding issues are expected to continue throughout the remainder of the week at the Burgenstock resort.

Qatar and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the negotiation process and maintaining a constructive environment conducive to achieving a final agreement. The two mediating countries also expressed their appreciation to both the United States and Iran for their continued dedication to diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

The statement concluded by recognizing and thanking friendly and brotherly nations for their ongoing support and valuable contributions to the negotiations.
