SAEDNEWS: Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: Decision-Making Bodies Meeting to Reach Final Consensus on Draft MoU with the U.S., No Confirmation of Trump’s Claim of Signing on Sunday or Monda
Accoridng to Saednews, Speaking to Iran’s IRIB, Baghaei said it is natural in any diplomatic process for each side to advance its own narrative, while Iran has sought to keep its account grounded in reality. He stated that Iran’s positions and red lines have remained consistent and were clearly defined from the outset of negotiations.
He noted that the Foreign Minister’s statement that an understanding is “very close” has been repeated over the past four weeks and is not new. According to Baghaei, an agreement could have been reached earlier, but repeated changes in the other side’s position and the introduction of new demands have caused delays.
Responding to accusations against Iran, Baghaei said it is clear which side has acted in good faith. He pointed to Iran’s implementation of the JCPOA in good faith, contrasted with the United States’ withdrawal from it. He also recalled that during a Pakistani delegation’s visit to Tehran two to three weeks earlier, he had described the situation as “very far, yet very close.” On another occasion, he compared the negotiations to a game of “snakes and ladders” due to what he described as unpredictable behaviour from the American side.
He added that from the beginning, the goal of the diplomatic process has been to reach an understanding, and that agreement has now been reached on most issues, with Iran currently in an internal phase of finalising its position.
Regarding claims by Donald Trump that a memorandum of understanding could be signed on Sunday or Monday, Baghaei said he could not provide a definitive assessment. He stressed that the timing, location, and details of any signing depend on the progress of the diplomatic process.
Baghaei acknowledged that, given the sensitivity of the issue, it is natural for journalists to rely on their own sources, and said Iran’s media environment is dynamic. However, he said he could not confirm any of the reported details.
He concluded that negotiations are an ongoing process and that Iran’s decisions are not determined by the other side. He emphasized that Iran’s decision-making process is clear: a final agreement requires consensus among relevant decision-making bodies, based on a structured process that takes previous experience into account at every stage.
