SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Pezeshkian says reducing regional tensions depends on neighbours not cooperating with Iran’s attackers
According to SAEDNEWS, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Monday to discuss recent developments in the region amid military actions by the US and Israel against Iran.
During the call, Pezeshkian dismissed media reports alleging that Iran had launched missile attacks on Turkey. He reaffirmed that Iran is committed to reducing regional tensions, provided that neighboring countries do not allow their airspace, territory, or waters to be used for attacks against Iranian citizens, according to his official website.
The Iranian president also expressed gratitude to Turkey for its efforts to foster regional peace and for offering condolences over the martyrdom of Iran’s Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, as well as civilians. He proposed the establishment of a joint team to investigate claims of alleged missile attacks to prevent hostile propaganda from harming bilateral relations.
Erdogan, in turn, offered condolences for the loss of Iran’s Leader and civilians and wished success to Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new Leader. He stressed that Turkey has no intention of confronting Iran, recognizes the country’s challenges, and is prepared to assist in reducing regional tensions.
The Turkish president emphasized that interference in Iran’s affairs is unacceptable, underscoring the importance of easing tensions and keeping diplomatic channels open.
The discussion comes after the US and Israel launched a major military campaign against Iran following the assassination of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and several senior military officials on February 28. These attacks involved extensive airstrikes on both military and civilian sites, resulting in significant casualties and widespread damage. In response, the Iranian Armed Forces conducted retaliatory operations targeting US and Israeli positions in occupied territories and regional bases using missiles and drones.
