SAEDNEWS: Marco Arment has launched Unforgetful, a new iOS and Mac reminders app aimed at people who frequently snooze or accidentally dismiss tasks. It works with Apple’s existing Reminders database while repeatedly notifying users until tasks are completed.
According to SaedNews: Marco Arment, the independent developer behind apps including Overcast and Instapaper and a former Tumblr chief technology officer, has launched Unforgetful, a new reminders app for iOS and Mac aimed at people who struggle to stay on top of tasks.
The app uses the user’s existing Apple Reminders database, but Arment says Apple’s Reminders app never suited the way he works. He has criticized its design and organization, as well as its snoozing behavior. He also found that accidentally dismissing a reminder could make it disappear, while reminders created without a specific time could fail to trigger a notification.
Unforgetful is designed around those problems. Its notifications continue repeating after being missed or dismissed and stop only when the task is completed and deleted. Its snooze system has also been redesigned, with intervals becoming longer as a task is repeatedly postponed, while avoiding a flood of simultaneous reminders that could become overwhelming.
The app deliberately keeps its organization simple, without tags, alternate views or modes, or other advanced tools. For users seeking those features, Apple Reminders remains the more suitable option.
Because Unforgetful works directly with Apple Reminders, users can keep adding tasks manually or through Siri, whether or not a deadline is attached. They simply disable Apple Reminders notifications and use Unforgetful’s instead.
That integration is also one of the app’s main advantages over other third-party reminders tools. Siri does not need to be instructed to use Unforgetful, and users who decide to leave the app do not need to transfer their reminders back to Apple because the data already remains in Apple’s database.
Unforgetful also includes an in-app microphone for voice reminders and widgets for the Lock Screen and Control Center. The app costs $19.99 per year and is available on both Mac and iOS.
