SAEDNEWS: Israel has received a shipment containing thousands of tons of military equipment and weapons at Haifa port, but Ma’ariv reports that severe equipment wear and shortages of spare parts continue to affect the army.
According to SaedNews: Israel’s Defense Ministry has announced the unloading of a cargo ship carrying thousands of tons of military equipment and weapons at Haifa port, as the Israeli army seeks to replenish stocks following three years of fighting in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank.
The shipment reportedly includes D9 bulldozers, Hummer and JLTV vehicles, Oshkosh trucks and other equipment intended for ground forces. The purchases were arranged through the Israeli Defense Ministry’s delegation in the United States.
However, Ma’ariv reported that the arrival of fresh equipment has not resolved the army’s broader equipment-wear problems. Various military units have reportedly warned of worsening wear and shortages of spare parts for Merkava tanks and armored vehicles.
The shortages have extended to key components, including tank engines imported from Germany and several other countries. Ma’ariv also reported that at the Israeli army’s armor school in Shizafon, about one-third of the tanks are unable to operate because of breakdowns and a lack of replacement parts.
The report comes as the Israeli army attempts to restore its weapons stocks and armored fleet after years of warfare across several fronts, indicating that its difficulties involve not only obtaining new weapons but also equipment deterioration and a serious shortage of spare parts.
