Saed News: Broccoli, bok choy, leafy vegetables, avocado, beetroot, and carrots are especially beneficial. Vegetables and fruits contain large amounts of antioxidants that help protect liver cells from damage and support their regeneration.
According to SAEDNEWS, Dr. Lyudmila Suznenina, a gastroenterology and liver specialist in Russia, explains that the liver is one of the few organs capable of regenerating itself. However, it needs support, especially through diet. To provide this support, vegetables should be regularly included in the diet. Broccoli, bok choy, leafy vegetables, avocado, beetroot, and carrots are especially beneficial. Vegetables and fruits contain large amounts of antioxidants that help protect liver cells from damage and support their regeneration. Fruits include bananas, lemons, grapefruit, grapes, and berries such as cranberries, raspberries, and sour raspberries.
She says: Fruits are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and trace elements that are essential not only for supporting liver health but also for the normal function of the immune system.
The doctor recommends focusing on oats, as they are a good source of fiber and beta-glucan, which helps reduce inflammation and lower the risk of fatty liver disease. She also recommends foods containing healthy fats for the liver, especially fatty fish, because omega-3 fatty acids are involved in metabolic processes, have anti-inflammatory effects, and strengthen liver function.
Suznenina says to consume fatty fish at least three times a week. If this is not possible, fish oil supplements may be taken after consulting a specialist. Nuts such as walnuts, almonds, and cashews are also beneficial for the liver because they contain unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants. However, it should be noted that nuts are very high in calories, so excessive consumption is not recommended.
This specialist recommends adding extra virgin olive oil to the diet, as it helps reduce oxidative stress and improve liver function.
Regarding beverages, she recommends green tea due to its antioxidant content. She also recommends natural juices rich in vitamins and minerals. She confirms that coffee is one of the most beneficial drinks for the liver, which is surprising.
Suznenina says: “Coffee has a positive effect on liver metabolism and reduces the risk of fatty liver disease, chronic liver disease, and some types of cancer. But this applies only to moderate consumption — no more than one or two cups per day.”
She notes that complex diets or strict restrictions are not necessary to maintain liver health. Instead, following a balanced diet that includes essential proteins, fats, vitamins, and trace elements is important.
