Saed News: U.S. President Donald Trump adopted a new position regarding the lifting of sanctions on Iran while intensive diplomatic efforts mediated by Pakistan, Qatar, and regional countries are underway.
According to SAEDNEWS, Trump claimed on Wednesday in an interview with PBS News that Iran would not receive sanctions relief in exchange for giving up highly enriched uranium.
While lifting sanctions and releasing Iran’s frozen assets are among the main conditions for any possible agreement, Trump, in response to a question asking whether “the current agreement would involve Iran giving up enriched uranium in exchange for sanctions relief,” claimed: “No, no, absolutely not. There is no sanctions relief at all.”
Earlier, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, in an interview with the American network VICE NEWS, responding to a question about Iran’s proposal to end hostilities with the United States that had been conveyed through Pakistan, said: “We do not want any concessions from the United States; we simply want our rights. Sanctions must be lifted, Iran’s blocked assets must be released and made available to the country.”
Trump also claimed that in recent contacts with several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, and others, he had emphasized that joining the “Abraham Accords” should be mandatory for them.
Saudi Arabia had previously announced that it would not join these agreements without guarantees for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. In response to a question asking why Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman should join the Abraham Accords without a path toward establishing a Palestinian state, Trump said: “Because it’s great for Saudi Arabia. It’s tremendous for Saudi Arabia.”
