Iran Rejects U.S. Allegations Regarding a Drone Attack on an Emirati Power Plant

According to SAEDNEWS, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council rejecting baseless U.S. accusations about a drone attack on the Barakah power plant in the United Arab Emirates.

Amir Saeid Iravani, in a letter to António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, and Fu Cong, President of the Security Council, strongly responded to the statements made by the U.S. representative at the 10,153rd Security Council meeting (May 19, 2026) on the “situation in the Middle East.”

In the letter, Iran’s UN envoy stated: “Iran itself has been a victim of attacks and aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against its peaceful nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.”

Iravani added that any attack or threat against peaceful nuclear facilities constitutes a clear violation of international law, the UN Charter, the IAEA statute, and its resolutions, and would carry catastrophic humanitarian, environmental, and radiological consequences.

Referring to what he described as a clear contradiction in the U.S. position, the Iranian ambassador said: “The United States, the only country ever to have used nuclear weapons, along with the Zionist regime, targeted Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, Isfahan, and Bushehr during two unlawful and brutal wars in June 2025 and February 2026.”

He emphasized that these actions constitute a serious violation of the UN Charter, international law, international humanitarian law, and IAEA resolutions.

Condemning Washington and Israel’s policies, Iran’s UN ambassador stressed that the main source of instability in the region is the destructive activities and repeated aggressions of the United States and the Zionist regime, and that the current situation is a direct result of two illegal wars against Iran.

Regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, Iravani said: “Unlike the United States and the Zionist regime, which are outside the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran remains committed to the NPT and for more than two decades has rejected baseless accusations against its peaceful nuclear program and has accepted one of the most rigorous IAEA verification regimes.”

Iran’s UN representative also cited the U.S. unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the imposition of illegal sanctions, and attacks on Iran while negotiations were ongoing as evidence of Washington’s unreliability.

He stressed that the United States and the Zionist regime must bear full responsibility for damages inflicted on civilians, civilian infrastructure, and Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, and that perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity must be held accountable.

Iravani concluded that the Security Council must reject political and misleading narratives that divert attention from the real roots of instability in the region.
