Saed News: The results of a recent study show that a mother’s diet during pregnancy can shape a child’s food preferences in advance; so that children who are exposed to vegetable flavors before birth show a greater tendency to consume these foods later in life.

According to SAEDNEWS, an international study shows that children tend to prefer the flavors they were exposed to during pregnancy, and this could help parents promote healthier eating habits.

Based on this new research, early exposure of the fetus to certain foods during pregnancy may lead children to show a greater preference for vegetables in later years.

Researchers from universities in the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands gave one group of pregnant women capsules containing kale powder and another group capsules containing carrot powder.

They then used ultrasound to observe and code fetal facial reactions after exposure to these flavors at weeks 32 and 36 of pregnancy.

The children were observed again when they were about three weeks old, and in the latest stage, 12 children were studied at the age of three. In the final phase, moist cotton swabs soaked in carrot powder or kale powder were placed under each child’s nose.

Their reactions were filmed and analyzed, and researchers looked for facial expressions described as “smiling face” or “crying face.” They then compared these reactions with those recorded before birth and shortly after birth. Researchers say these findings, confirming previous studies, show that babies can perceive flavors from the mother’s diet even before birth.
