According to SAEDNEWS, citing the Simorgh news website, a wealthy man around 200 years ago carried out an unusual act to test his wife’s love. In the 18th century, a wealthy merchant named Timothy Dexter pretended to be dead.
He stood up in the middle of his funeral ceremony in front of 3,000 people and, because his wife did not cry enough, he disinherited her. He did this to measure his wife’s love for him and concluded from her lack of tears that she did not love him enough. You can see an image of this merchant below.
