New Bill May Extend Israeli Authority in the West Bank

SAEDNEWS: Israel’s Knesset has taken a significant step toward enabling direct property purchases by Israelis in the occupied West Bank—legislation that critics say could accelerate settlement expansion.

New Bill May Extend Israeli Authority in the West Bank

The Israeli regime’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee has approved a draft bill that would allow Israelis to directly buy real estate in the West Bank, according to reports from Zionist media.

If enacted, the legislation could accelerate settlement activity and further cement Israeli control over the territory. The bill must pass three parliamentary readings and secure a majority before it becomes law.

Currently, a regulation dating back to 1953 prevents non-Jordanians, non-Palestinians, and generally non-Arabs from purchasing property in the West Bank. The proposed draft seeks to overturn this long-standing rule.

The committee chair acknowledged that the bill would effectively expand Israel’s influence in the region, potentially paving the way for a larger Israeli presence in the area.
