The Western Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army coordinated ground and air forces to assess the damage and conduct search-and-rescue operations. More than 400 military personnel, militiamen and police officers from local units had been deployed. By 5 p.m. Friday, they had helped relocate and resettle nearly 500 affected residents.
The theater command also deployed military drones to conduct aerial surveys of several villages within a 20-kilometer radius of the epicenter and inspect the area for potential secondary disasters.
Local authorities said that, as of 6 p.m. Friday, no missing persons had been reported following the earthquake.
An analysis by experts at the China Earthquake Networks Center indicated that the earthquake resulted from an extensional fault rupture, broadly consistent with the region's tectonic characteristics.
