SAEDNEWS: Sweden's Ice Hotel is the first and largest hotel made entirely of ice and snow in the world, which has become one of the country’s tourist attractions and draws thousands of visitors from around the globe to northern Sweden every year.
According to Saed News Tourism Service, Sweden’s renowned Ice Hotel has opened its cold but enchanting doors for the 36th time; a temporary accommodation built every year that slowly melts back into nature after a few months. Located in the village of Jukkasjärvi, near the Torne River, this year’s edition offers a fresh collection of rooms and artistic spaces, providing a unique winter stay experience.
The new version of the hotel features 12 artistic suites and approximately 15 to 20 ice rooms, each designed and executed with the collaboration of 33 artists from different countries. The ice used for the construction was harvested from the Torne River in March, and the 2,800-square-meter hotel took shape only last month—a compact project completed with the efforts of 89 architects, designers, artists, and builders.
Visitors enter the hotel through its 30-meter main hall, a space resembling a glowing forest of icy tree tips, evoking the feeling of stepping into a living art exhibition. This description is apt, as the Ice Hotel is presented each year as a “living art exhibition”—a creation that is neither permanent nor repeatable.
Room temperatures are around minus five degrees Celsius, with guests spending the night in special sleeping bags and under reindeer skins, surrounded by walls of ice and snow. In addition to the guest rooms, a dedicated hall is set up for wedding ceremonies, offering couples the chance to hold their celebrations amid snow and ice.
