Discover Hafez’s Mausoleum: Shiraz’s Beloved Cultural Landmark

The story of Hafez’s mausoleum begins with Shams al-Din Mohammad Yaghmaei, the minister of Abul Qassem Gurkani, ruler of Fars. In 865 AH (1452 AD), he commissioned a majestic dome over the poet’s grave and a large pool in front, fed by the waters of Rokn Abad. Over the centuries, the site was restored and expanded, blending history, architecture, and nature in perfect harmony.

Visitors today can explore two serene courtyards, north and south, framing the central hall, alongside a lush garden, an orangery, and rectangular pools that reflect the timeless elegance of Persian design. Every corner of this mausoleum offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Shiraz, inviting poetry lovers and history enthusiasts alike to experience the beauty and tranquility that have inspired generations.

This iconic sanctuary is more than a resting place; it is a living testament to Persian art, architecture, and devotion to literature, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking to feel the soul of Iran’s poetic legacy.
