His face has been reconstructed using facial reconstruction systems and interactive 3D technology by the Face Lab at Liverpool John Moores University.
Professor Caroline Wilkinson says the facial reconstruction is based on “all available skeletal and historical materials.”
This saint, who died in 343 AD, was the Greek bishop of Myra. The city, now known as Demre, is located on the southern coast of Turkey.
A university spokesperson said that the reconstruction used “the most up-to-date anatomical standards,” and that the image even reflects St. Nicholas’s broken nose, which, according to the research, “healed asymmetrically, giving him a distinctive nose and a somewhat rugged appearance.”
