As part of an agreement between the groom and the bride’s father, the groom committed to pay 100,000 dirhams (approximately $27,224), split into two installments: 50,000 dirhams at the registry office and 50,000 dirhams afterward. The groom paid the first installment as agreed, but as soon as he left the registry building, the bride’s father demanded the remaining amount.
The groom asked for just five minutes, assuring him that the money was in his car and there was no need to worry. However, the bride’s father insisted that one of his relatives or friends collect the payment immediately, creating a public confrontation in front of both families. Feeling humiliated and insulted, the groom returned to the registry office and divorced his wife less than 15 minutes after the marriage ceremony.
The case lawyer stated: “The groom was humiliated by his father-in-law. He told the bride’s father that he would not accept the man’s daughter as his wife, and less than 15 minutes after signing the marriage contract, he divorced her.”
