LEAKED: Hannah Einbinder Opens Up on Filming the Final Season of Hacks

Einbinder confirms the end

“Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder confirmed on the Emmys red carpet on Sunday that the HBO Max comedy series will conclude with its upcoming fifth season.

On the red carpet: bittersweet but right

“It will feel different,” Einbinder told E! host Heather McMahan. “We’re going to start [filming] next week, and knowing it’s the last season is really bittersweet. But I think it’s right, you know? It’s nice to do something as many times as it should be done. Not overstay your welcome. Rip it and do it and laugh and cry.”

She’s on the record

When McMahan repeated the “rip it” quote back to Einbinder, the supporting actress in a comedy Emmy nominee said: “You can quote me on that. I’m going on the record on that.”

Creators always had a plan — but HBO Max hasn’t yet made it official

The show’s creators, Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs have often said they saw “Hacks” as a five-season show, but HBO Max has not officially confirmed the series will end after Season 5, which is expected to debut in 2026.

Writers break and the final scene

In an interview with Variety following the Season 4 finale, the showrunners were asked directly if they would keep to that plan as they headed into writing the fifth season. “We are now breaking up Season 5, and we have to see how many episodes it will take us to get to where we know we’re going to go,” Downs said. “The final scene of the final episode has been in our minds since 2015, and we’re excited to get there. But that may take more episodes than we can fit in the season. So the truth is that we don’t know.”
