French Gougeres | A Delicious Recipe for Classic French Cheese Puffs

According to Saednews, Gougères are a classic French appetizer that children especially enjoy. These delicious little cheese puffs are also perfect as finger food for serving guests at birthday parties, celebrations, and other gatherings. Here is a simple recipe for making this popular French appetizer.

Ingredients

  • Butter: 60 g

  • All-purpose flour: 180 g

  • Eggs: 4

  • Water: 250 ml

  • Salt: 1 teaspoon

  • Grated cheese: 150 g

How to Make French Gougères

First, place the water, butter, and salt in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the water comes to a boil and the butter has completely melted.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and add all the flour at once. Stir well until the ingredients come together and form a dough.

Return the saucepan to the heat and continue stirring for a few minutes to lightly cook the dough. When the dough begins to stick slightly to the bottom of the pan, remove it from the heat and transfer it to another bowl. Allow it to cool slightly.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the dough becomes smooth and well combined.

Finally, add the grated cheese and mix well. Shape the dough into evenly sized balls and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each one.

Sprinkle a little extra cheese over the top of the dough balls, then place the tray in a preheated oven.

Once the gougères have puffed up, reduce the oven temperature and continue baking until they become golden brown on the surface.

Tip

You can add sesame seeds or dried herbs to the gougère dough for extra flavor.
