According to the Saed News Family Magazine service, kotlet or shami kebab is one of the most popular and delicious Iranian dishes. Kotlet is prepared with ground meat, potatoes, salt, flour, and aromatic spices, and it is usually served without rice, alongside bread, either hot or cold. Kotlet can be served as a main dish, appetizer, travel food, or as a cold sandwich. It can also be made completely vegetarian by replacing the meat with mushrooms and soy, so that vegetarians can enjoy this dish as well.

Shami kebab, because it is considered a dry-type kebab, is usually served with a sauce. It is recommended to serve it either with fried tomatoes or with tomato sauce.
