Saed News: “Satya Nadella,” Microsoft’s CEO, tried to reassure people concerned about the environmental impact of data centers.
According to SAEDNEWS, citing TechRadar, during a speech at the Microsoft Build event, he explained that the company is working on a new approach for its data centers, aiming to improve cooling systems and reduce water consumption.
Nadella claimed that in fact, the annual water usage of one facility in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is only equivalent to that of a restaurant, thanks to its vertical design and two-story data center structure.
He also emphasized that Microsoft’s Azure cloud business now spans more than 500 data centers across 80 regions, calling it the “largest hyperscale environmental footprint.” Microsoft added that in the past 18 months, data center capacity has expanded more than in the first decade of Azure’s existence. However, with this expansion, concerns about environmental impact have also increased.
Nadella said: “Perhaps the most important design area for us is ensuring we can obtain permission from the communities where these data centers operate.”
