Saed News: Satsuki Katayama, Japan’s Minister of Economy, stated that OpenAI has provided access to its ChatGPT 5.5 model to prevent cyberattacks against financial institutions in the country.
According to SAEDNEWS, citing the Straits Times, the release of AI models capable of advanced coding has given hackers extraordinary power to identify cybersecurity risks and design methods to exploit them.
One defensive approach for banks and other vulnerable financial institutions is early access to new AI models that are only provided to trusted partners.
Katayama, without naming the institutions, said that access to artificial intelligence is an important step in strengthening the ability of Japanese financial institutions to defend against cyberattacks.
The Nikkei newspaper reported on May 28 that, according to forecasts, Japan’s three major banks—MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Mizuho Bank—will gain access to OpenAI’s latest model, which is expected to compete with Anthropic’s “Claude” model.
According to the Minister of Economy, the government and financial institutions in Japan are also expected to gain access to the “Claude” model to strengthen their defenses.
